The driver of a fatal crash in Carle Place has been identified as Maria Salamista, 68, of Brooklyn, Nassau police said Tuesday.

Salamista was in her Dodge Neon on Voice Road about 6:05 p.m. Saturday when a heart attack apparently incapacitated her and she crashed into bushes, coming to rest against the steel post of a parking sign, police said.

Officers who responded tried to resuscitate her, police said, and she was taken to a local hospital, where she was pronounced dead at 6:58 p.m.
