Dispatched to a report of a one-car accident on the Meadowbrook Parkway Saturday a state trooper said he smelled alcohol - and, after the woman was treated at Nassau University Medical Center, she was arrested and charged with drunken driving.

But not before, police said, she became "combative," , spitting at hospital staff members.

Charlotte Ingoglia, 37, of Bayside Avenue in Oceanside, was charged with driving while intoxicated, two counts of second-degree harassment, disorderly conduct and traffic violations, police said. An arraignment date was not immediately available on Monday.

Police said the incident was reported at 12:23 a.m.

Police said Ingoglia was headed south on the Meadowbrook near Merrick Road when the crash occurred - and a trooper arrived on the scene to find a gray Jeep with front-end damage and an emergency medical technician treating Ingoglia. It was then the trooper smelled alcohol, police said.
