A teenage driver on the Wantagh State Parkway escaped injury Wednesday when he lost control of his car and hit a sign and a park bench before coming to rest partially in Wantagh Mill Pond, police said.
The 17-year-old Massapequa man told State Police that he was cut off by another driver, prompting him to drive his Nissan Altima off the right shoulder at about 2:35 p.m. as he headed south near Merrick Road in Wantagh.
Trooper Frank Bandiero, a State Police spokesman, said the Nissan driver was not injured.
"He was lucky," Bandiero said.
