Police are searching for the driver of a dark-colored sports car, possibly a Nissan 300ZX, that struck and killed a Massapequa man Monday evening in East Massapequa.

The identity of the victim has not been released, pending notification of next of kin.

Nassau County police said he is from Massapequa and believed to have been in his 60s.

The victim died at the scene, near the intersection of Merrick Road and Carman Mill Road. The accident occurred at about 8:50 p.m., police said.

Police said the man was crossing Merrick Road when he was struck by the eastbound car. The car then sped east on Merrick -- and crossed the line into Suffolk County, police said.

Police ask anyone with information about the accident, the vehicle or the driver to call Crime Stoppers at 800-244-TIPS. All calls will be kept confidential.
