DWI charge after crash with ambulance

A Valley Stream man was arrested and charged with driving while ability impaired by drugs and alcohol after he collided head-on with a Nassau County police ambulance on Franklin Avenue in Valley Stream, police said.
William Buffalin, 26, of Meyer Avenue, was charged with two counts of third-degree assault, seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, driving while ability impaired-combined influence, driving while ability impaired by drugs and unlawful possession of marijuana. The crash occurred on Franklin Avenue near Emerson Place at 6:54 p.m. Thursday.
The ambulance, which was taking a patient to a hospital, was northbound on Franklin when the vehicle being driven by Buffalin struck it, police said. Two people in the ambulance suffered minor injuries and were treated at a hospital.
