Man, 79, on e-bike dies after being struck by SUV in Island Park, police said

A man was killed Sunday morning while riding his e-bike on an Island Park sidewalk, according to Nassau County police.
The 79-year-old man was riding his bike on the sidewalk along Austin Boulevard at around 11:15 a.m. when a Kia Sportage driven by a 75-year-old woman exited a Dunkin’ store's drive-thru. While swerving to avoid a collision, the man fell off his bike and into the road, police officials said Sunday. The Kia then struck the man, police said.
The man was pronounced dead at a hospital.
There were several crashes near the intersection of Austin Boulevard and Audubon Boulevard between 2022 and 2024, but none were fatal, according to Newsday's crash map.
