An accident involving multiple vehicles on the westbound Southern State Parkway temporarily snarled traffic early Monday near Corona Avenue, but that was the only disruption on Long Island highways as a warm and hazy Memorial Day began.

The accident west of Exit 15 near Franklin Square occurred shortly before 8 a.m. and closed two westbound lanes, but was cleared up about 45 minutes later, according to the NYS Department of Transportation. There were no reports of injuries.

Closed circuit cameras around Long Island showed light traffic, even on beach approaches such as the Meadowbrook and Wantagh State Parkways to Jones Beach.

Long Islanders driving out of town faced no problems on bridge and tunnel links to the Bronx and Manhattan, New York City traffic cameras showed early Monday afternoon. Even the Cross Bronx Expressway was moving well at 9 a.m.
