Firefighters needed about 45 minutes to extinguish a blaze early Thursday at an unoccupied Seaford home, fire officials said.

The Seaford Fire Department responded to a call for a fire on Hudson Avenue at about 4:45 a.m., Chief Bob Podesta said.

There were no injuries and fire departments from Massapequa, Wantagh and North Massapequa also responded, Podesta said.

Podesta said the home was not occupied at the time of the fire because it had lost power and the family was staying with relatives.

The fire appeared to be electrical in nature and could have started when power was restored some time overnight, he said.

Electrical power to about 109 customers in Seaford, including houses on Hudson Avenue, was out for about five hours, beginning at about 10:30 p.m. Wednesday, because of a burned wire, possibly from a lightning strike, a LIPA spokesman said.

Podesta said damage to the home was "substantial."
