Police release ID of pedestrian fatally struck in East Meadow

A pedestrian fatally struck by a vehicle Saturday night in East Meadow has been identified as 70-year-old Surgit Singh, Nassau police said.
Singh was attempting to cross Bellmore Avenue from east to west near North Jerusalem Road about 5:45 p.m. when he was struck by a 2015 Mercedes-Benz traveling south, police said. Singh suffered multiple injuries and was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead at 6:18 p.m. Police did not immediately say where Singh lived.
The driver, whose name was not immediately released, remained on the scene and the vehicle underwent a brake and safety check, police said.
