East Rockaway fire leaves 2 with smoke inhalation, cops say

Two residents were taken to a hospital for treatment of smoke inhalation after escaping a fire at a home in East Rockaway late Tuesday night, Nassau County police said.
Police said the fire at the two-story home on Ocean Avenue near Ryder Place was reported in a 911 call at about 10:40 p.m. They said firefighters from East Rockaway responded to the call.
Fire officials did not confirm what other departments responded to the scene.
The extent of the fire damage was not immediately known. Police said the cause was under investigation.
