A man was hospitalized after firefighters pulled him from a burning home in East Rockaway on Tuesday, officials said.

Nassau County police and the East Rockaway Fire Department received a call about a burning home on Ocean Avenue at about 10:40 p.m. on Tuesday.

Police said about 30 to 40 firefighters responded to the scene, and spotted flames coming from a second-floor bedroom. The flames were quickly extinguished and firefighters found the man, a 55-year-old resident of the house, lying face down in the second-floor bathroom.

The man was taken to a hospital and treated for smoke inhalation. He remains in serious but stable condition, police said.

A firefighter was also treated after he cut his hand breaking a window to get into the house. He was released.

Police added that the Nassau County fire marshal and the police arson bomb squad investigated and determined the fire’s cause was not suspicious.
