THE BUDGET

The district proposes a $37,994,804 budget for 2015-16, a 1.88 percent increase from the current $37,295,028. The local tax levy would increase 1.58 percent, from $28,760,630 to $29,215,176.

This proposal is equal to the state's tax-cap limit of 1.58 percent, so a simple majority is required to approve the budget. School taxes on the average single-family home would increase 1.65 percent, from $7,463 to $7,586.

The proposed budget includes 1.85 percent for contractual step increases in teacher salaries. All other increases are being negotiated.

Residents also will vote to allow the use of $200,000 from the capital reserve for building improvements and repairs, $200,000 from the capital reserve fund for the purchase and upgrade of technology and telecommunications.
