Eastbound Hempstead Turnpike reopens after pedestrian hit in Levittown
A pedestrian in Levittown was struck Thursday by a vehicle on Hempstead Turnpike, leading to a four-hour shutdown of the eastbound lanes during the afternoon rush hour, Nassau police said.
The turnpike reopened at 8:20 p.m. after being closed between Pond and Shelter lanes, police said.
The accident happened just before 4 p.m., police said. A police spokesman Thursday night said he did not have details on what happened or the seriousness of the injuries.
