A pedestrian suffered multiple, traumatic injuries Friday after a motorist struck him in Mineola and hit another vehicle before taking off, Nassau County police.

The man, 38, was crossing Jericho Turnpike at Frank Avenue when a silver-gray Volkswagen Jetta going east struck him about 7:45 a.m., homicide detectives said.

The Jetta, a 2013 model, then crashed into another vehicle but did not stop, police said.

The victim was taken to a hospital, and a portion of eastbound Jericho Turnpike was closed until about 12:30 p.m. as investigators gathered evidence, police said.
