A tractor trailer fire and the ensuing diesel fuel spill in western Nassau County closed all eastbound lanes of the Long Island Expressway for more than four hours Thursday morning, police said.

Nassau County police said the fire was at Exit 34, New Hyde Park Road, on the boundary of Lake Success and North Hills.

The lanes were closed at Exit 32, Little Neck Parkway, in Lake Success, starting about 5:30 a.m. They remained closed until shortly after 10 a.m., according to the state Department of Transportation website.

A police spokeswoman said the roadway was closed so crews from the state Department of Conservation could clean up the spill.

There were no serious injuries, police said.
