Eisenhower Park hours extended for 9/11
Eisenhower Park will be open until 10 p.m. Monday and Nassau County is offering free candles to residents seeking to honor the victims of the 9/11 terrorist attacks, the office of County Executive Edward Mangano said.
In a release Monday, Mangano's office said the East Meadow park's operating hours will be extended from dusk.
The park's 9/11 Memorial, adjacent to the lake, has two semitransparent aluminum towers representing the World Trade Center towers and contains two pieces of steel recovered from the Ground Zero site.
Although no formal program is scheduled, "the evening provides an opportunity for veterans, families and friends to mourn their loved ones," the release said.
"This is a small act we undertake to honor the innocent victims of the Sept. 11 attacks ...," Mangano said in a statement.
