VOTING

6 a.m. to 9 p.m. at all six of the district's schools, as well as the district's administration building on Elmont Road.

THE BUDGET

The district proposes a $84,787,214 budget for 2015-16, a 1.2 percent increase from the current $83,767,318. The local tax levy would decrease slightly, from $54,719,519 to $54,719,298.

The tax levy change falls within the state's tax-cap limit of 2.6 percent, so a simple majority vote will be required to approve the budget. School taxes on the average single-family home would decrease 0.28 percent, from $3,548 to $3,538.

The proposed budget includes a contractual increase in teacher salaries of 1.5 percent and an average step increase of 1.7 percent. In addition, four teaching positions would be eliminated. No cuts or additions would be made to district programs or services.

THE CANDIDATES

Three incumbents -- Kevin Denehy, Patrick O. Emeagwali and Leslyn Stewart -- are running unopposed. Denehy and Emeagwali's seats are for three-year terms; Stewart's is for one year, as she was appointed to a seat vacated prematurely by Jon Johnson in October and must run to remain on the board.
