Elmont teen accused of assaulting officers at library

An Elmont teenager was charged Friday with resisting arrest after he refused to leave the Elmont Memorial Library and struck two officers in a struggle, Nassau County police said.

Gregory M. Graham, 16, of Benson Avenue, was also charged with two counts of second-degree assault and criminal trespass. He was arraigned Saturday in First District Court in Hempstead. He was held on $10,000 cash or bond and his next court appearance is set for Tuesday.

Nassau police encountered Graham when they responded to the library, 700 Hempstead Tpke., shortly after 4 p.m. to help security with a disorderly person who refused to leave, authorities said.

Graham also refused police commands to leave and struck one officer with his right elbow. Graham "then began to violently flail his arms" and punched both officers while refusing to be handcuffed, police said in a news release.

One officer suffered left shoulder pain and abrasions; the second officer suffered swelling and contusions to his right forearm. Both officers were taken to a hospital for treatment.
