A woman was struck and killed by a sport utility vehicle Sunday in East Massapequa as she tried to walk across Sunrise Highway, Nassau County police said.

Elzire Presume, 48, of Hempstead, was pronounced dead at the scene at 8:14 p.m. by Massapequa Fire Department medical personnel, homicide detectives said.

A 2007 Toyota Highlander, driven by a man, 22, was traveling west on the highway near Louden Street when it hit Presume, detectives said. She was trying to cross from south to north on Sunrise Highway, police said.

The driver agreed to a breath analyzer test at the scene, which was negative for alcohol, police said. His vehicle also passed brake and safety checks at the scene. Police said no charges were filed against the driver.
