Former Nassau Comptroller Howard Weitzman, wrestling with a rare blood disease when he lost a re-election bid in 2009, sent out a "Dear Friend" letter last week via the Parkside Group political consulting firm.

In it, Weitzman, a Democrat, states, "My health continues to improve and I have been cleared by my doctors for all activities . . . Please feel free to email me your thoughts on this or any other matter."

With GOP Comptroller George Maragos facing re-election next year, Weitzman has declined to rule out a comeback attempt.
