North Bellmore firefighters rescued a family dog while trying to subdue a two-story blaze Sunday morning.

Firefighters were alerted to the fire on Tyrus Court in North Merrick, shortly after 7:30 a.m., said a department spokesman.

The residents of the home were able to escape without any injuries, but firefighters entered the house to look for the dog and "in zero visibility smoke conditions" and after a brief search were able to remove the pet from the house.

Bellmore, East Meadow and Uniondale Firefighters also responded to the scene of the fire, which took about 30 minutes to get under control, according to a department report.

Two firefighters were treated on the scene for minor injuries. The Nassau County Fire Marshal's Office is investigating the cause of the fire.
