Far Rockaway man paid for clothes with bogus bills, cops say

Nassau police said they charged a Far Rockaway man Thursday after he tried to pay for clothes with counterfeit money during a transaction with a seller on a Woodmere street.
Crimes Against Property detectives said Jermaine Zied, 17, of Brunswick Avenue, met a 16-year-old boy who was selling clothes at 929 Broadway at about 12:30 p.m.– but police said Zied handed over $530 worth of counterfeit bills that the seller noticed only after walking away from the sale.
Police said in a news release that, “The complainant returned to confront the defendant and chased him to Church Avenue and Carlyle Avenue.” Fourth Precinct officers responded to the scene after a report of a disturbance and arrested Zied. Officers found five fake 100-dollar bills in Zied’s possession, they said.
Zied is scheduled to be arraigned Friday in First District Court in Hempstead on 10 counts of criminal possession of a forged instrument.
His attorney could not be reached for comment.
