Students and staff were briefly evacuated from Farmingdale High School on Monday morning after a 911 caller reported an odor of gas inside the building, Nassau County fire officials said.

The odor was later determined to be fumes from a machine being used in a shop class, school officials said.

County fire officials said the 911 call was received about 10:30 a.m. and said firefighters from Farmingdale and South Farmingdale responded to the scene.
