78-year-old woman dies after SUV hits tree in East Meadow

A 78-year-old woman died Wednesday when the SUV she was driving left the road and crashed into a tree in East Meadow, Nassau police said.
The woman, who was not identified, was driving a 2012 Ford SUV on 3rd Street near Hempstead Turnpike at 1:25 p.m. when the crash occurred, police said.
She was transported to a hospital where she was pronounced dead by a physician, police said. No other injuries were reported.
Nassau detectives are investigating the incident. No further information was available.
