A man died after hitting two parked cars and a utility pole on Sunrise Highway in Wantagh on Monday afternoon, police said.

The man, 72, was driving a pickup truck east on Sunrise Highway at Oakland Avenue when he crashed into the cars and pole about 2:50 p.m., Nassau County police said in a news release Tuesday morning.

The driver was unresponsive when police arrived and was pronounced dead at a hospital, police said. His identity was withheld pending family notification.

Detectives were investigating whether the driver had a medical event, police said Monday.

Sunrise Highway's eastbound lanes between Wantagh Avenue and Morris Gate were closed through the evening as detectives pieced together what happened, police said. All lanes were open before 10 p.m.

Police impounded the pickup truck for safety checks, police said.
