Police said an unidentified man was fatally stabbed early Tuesday morning in Hempstead Village near First District Court and Hempstead Town Hall, an area marked by a number of fatal and near-fatal stabbings in recent years.

The latest altercation at Nichols Court and Main Street occurred at 4:30 a.m., police said. The victim was taken to a hospital, where he died from his injuries, Nassau police said.

Detectives declined to release any additional information about the stabbing.

Two men were arrested last week in connection with a 2010 stabbing on Main Street in which Benito Salazar, 23, of Uniondale, died.

Eight males were arrested in July and August and charged with first-degree assault after a Brentwood man was stabbed in July on nearby Fulton Avenue. Also, an arrest was made earlier this year in the 2009 death of Erick Avalos, 16, who was stabbed on Fulton Avenue.
