Wantagh Parkway northbound was closed under the Newbridge Road bridge in East Meadow after an SUV struck it, killing the driver, early Saturday, New York State Police said. Credit: John Scalesi

A driver on the Wantagh State Parkway was killed after striking an overpass early Saturday morning, according to state police.

Jhonson Merilus, 32, of Westbury, was heading north on the parkway in a Mitsubishi Outlander and crashed north of Exit W3, Hempstead Turnpike in East Meadow at 6:12 a.m., police said. 

There were no other occupants in the SUV.

No other information was immediately available.
