Investigators are looking into the cause of a fire late Thursday that severely damaged an unoccupied house under construction in Lake Success.
Firefighters from the Manhasset-Lakeville Fire Department needed a little more than an hour to extinguish the blaze, fire officials said.
The fire broke out about 11:50 p.m. on Horizon Road, said department Capt. Lee Genser. There were no injuries, he said.
"The structure suffered severe fire damage and a collapse into the basement," Nassau police said in a news release.
Genser said the fire was in full force when the department arrived.
"You could see it from several blocks away, and the heat was very intense," he said.
A neighboring house was evacuated as a precaution, he said, and water was sprayed between two neighboring houses to keep the fire from spreading.
Genser said the blaze was under control at about 1 a.m. and all units were released from the scene by 3 a.m.
The Great Neck Vigilant Fire Company was on standby, Genser said. He added that the Nassau County Fire Marshal's Office was investigating.
