Fire damages two Hempstead stores
A fire in a 99-cent store in Hempstead early Wednesday damaged two buildings, Nassau County police and fire officials said.
The stores were closed at the time of the blaze. No one was injured.
Police said the fire originated in the store on Fulton Avenue at 12:28 a.m. The fire then spread to an adjoining store, officials said.
Firefighters from Hempstead, West Hempstead and Baldwin battled the blaze, officials said.
The cause of the fire is under investigation by the police Arson-Bomb Squad and the Nassau County Fire Marshal's Office.
