The Nassau County Firefighters Museum and Education Center will give away free smoke detectors this weekend to remind Long Islanders to change their clocks and their smoke and carbon monoxide detector batteries in conjunction with the switch to daylight saving time on Sunday.

The giveaway will be from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. The museum is located on Charles Lindbergh Boulevard in Uniondale.

Smoke detectors, donated by Kidde, are limited to one per family with paid admission to the museum. Ticket prices are $5 for adults and $4 for children, organizers said.

The museum urges residents to perform a check of smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors in their homes to make sure they are properly installed and have functioning batteries.

Daylight saving time begins Sunday at 2 a.m., when clocks should be moved forward by one hour.

For more information call the museum at 516-572-4177 or visit ncfiremuseum.org.
