Five children were hurt when two large school buses collided on the Long Island Expressway on Thursday afternoon in Oyster Bay Town, Nassau police said.

The young passengers were being evaluated, but their injuries appear to be minor, police said.

The crash happened just before 5 p.m. in the middle lane of the westbound LIE, between Exit 44/Seaford-Oyster Bay Expressway and Exit 46/Sunnyside Boulevard, police said.

Details on what caused the crash and how many students were in each bus were not immediately available.

Three victims were in one bus and two in another, police said.
