Showers and thunderstorms were expected again on Long Island Friday afternoon and evening, prompting the National Weather Service to issue another flash flood watch for Nassau into Friday night.

Some of the storms may produce gusty winds and heavy rain, with rainfall totals between a tenth and a quarter of an inch or higher in thunderstorms, the agency said. Friday's high will be near 72 degrees.

The rain follows downpours on Thursday that flooded parts of the Island.

Saturday will be partly sunny with a high near 79. There will be a chance of showers and thunderstorms after 11 a.m., and Sunday will be mostly sunny with a high near 78.

Runoff from Thursday's heavy rainfall prompted swimming advisories and closures at several Nassau and Suffolk beaches.

In Suffolk, the health department issued an advisory Thursday against bathing at 22 beaches because heavy rain can cause high bacteria levels at those beaches.

Indian Field Beach

Steer's Beach in Northport and Valley Grove Beach in Eatons Neck are still closed to bathing because of elevated bacteria counts.

In Nassau the health department closed 13 beaches as a precaution.

In addition, Laurel Hollow Beach remains closed to bathing because of elevated bacterial levels.
