Former store manager pleads guilty to stealing from CVS

A former CVS store manager was sentenced Monday to 10 days in jail for stealing more than $40,000 in business proceeds that he was supposed to deposit in the bank, the Nassau district attorney's office said.

Scott Crafa, 42, of West Islip had pleaded guilty in September to petty larceny, a misdemeanor, and has paid back the full amount of $41,251.05 to the drugstore chain, prosecutors said. As part of his sentence, he must also be on probation for three years and do 80 hours of community service, prosecutors said.

Crafa was the store manager at CVS Freeport between March 26 and March 30, when he failed to make the nightly bank deposits, and officials at the chain discovered the shortage, according to an investigation by Freeport and Nassau police. He was arrested in April at the store.

Crafa's attorney declined to comment.

"Employees who steal from their places of work not only harm their employers, they also cause cost increases for goods and services that hurt everyone," District Attorney Kathleen Rice said.
