A man hit by a vehicle Saturday as he crossed Hempstead Turnpike in Levittown has died from his injuries, Nassau County police said.

Frank Ilardi, 79, of Levittown was pronounced dead at 10 p.m. Saturday by a staff physician at the Nassau University Medical Center, police said in a Monday news release.

Ilardi was trying to cross Hempstead Turnpike from the south near Grassy Lane about 5 p.m. when he was hit by a vehicle driven by a man, 85, police said.

Ilardi had broken bones and head trauma, police said.

Brake and safety inspections were performed at the scene, and police said no criminality was apparent in the accident.
