A 12-year-old Freeport girl suddenly collapsed and died Thursday afternoon while entering a junior high school classroom, Nassau police said.

The child, whose name was not released by police, was entering her classroom at Dodd Junior High School, 25 Pine St., at 2:20 p.m. when she fell to the floor, police said.

She was taken by police ambulance to a hospital where she was pronounced dead at 3:56 p.m., police said.

The cause of her death is unknown, pending autopsy results, police said.
