A Freeport man pointed a revolver at his victim on Harvard Street in Hempstead before taking cash, jewelry and a cellphone early Wednesday morning, Nassau police said.

Police charged Ian Highsmith, 25, of 11 Hope Place, with robbery and criminal possession of a weapon. He was scheduled to be arraigned Wednesday at First District Court in Hempstead.

According to a news release, Highsmith fled the 2 a.m. robbery scene in a 2003 Lincoln, but was soon caught by officers from the Village of Hempstead Police Department.

Police did not identify the 21-year-old man said to be his victim.
