Freeport man charged with criminal possession
A Freeport man was arrested Thursday, charged with 10 counts of criminal possession of a forged instrument, after he tried to buy a money gram using counterfeit $100 bills in December, police said.
Samuel Robinson, 61, of Guy Lombardo Avenue, was arrested and charged in connection with the incident, which occurred at the Tobacco Road smoke shop on Rockaway Turnpike in Lawrence on Dec. 7, Nassau County police said.
During that incident, police said, Robinson entered the store, filled out a form for the purchase of a money gram, presented the store clerk with a valid New York State Identification Card -- then handed the woman 10 counterfeit $100 bills for the purchase.
The clerk called 911, police said. But, police said, Robinson overheard that call -- and fled before police arrived.
Robinson is scheduled for arraignment Friday in First District Court in Hempstead.
