A possible underage-drinking charge morphed into something more serious when police said they discovered a 19-year-old Freeport man carrying an illegal weapon and what appeared to be crack cocaine.

Two Nassau County police officers in Roosevelt said they approached Tysaan Robinson, of 136 Woodside Ave., about 1:30 a.m. Saturday after seeing him drinking an alcoholic beverage. As they neared, he took out a revolver from his waist area and began running away, with the gun in his right hand, police said.

The cops took chase and caught Robinson, who was carrying a. 38 caliber revolver loaded with four rounds of hollow-point bullets and one .38 caliber round, according to police.

Inside Robinson's sock, police said they discovered a clear plastic bag containing 3.9 grams of a white rocklike substance believed to be crack cocaine.

Robinson was charged with second- and third-degree criminal possession of a weapon and fourth-degree possession of a controlled substance.

Arraignment was scheduled for Saturday in First District Court in Hempstead.
