A memorial fund has been established for the family of Geoffrey J. Breitkopf, the Nassau County police officer killed Saturday in a "friendly fire" shooting in Massapequa Park.

Nassau County police said in a news release Tuesday that donations can be made to the Geoffrey J. Breitkopf Memorial Fund, c/o Nassau County P.B.A., 89 E. Jericho Tpke., Mineola, NY 11501.

Breitkopf, 40, a member of the elite Bureau of Special Operations, is survived by a wife and two sons, the release said.

Public visitation for Breitkopf is from 2 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday at the Selden Fire Department headquarters, 44 Woodmere Place, Selden.

Services are at 12:30 p.m. Friday at St. Margaret of Scotland Roman Catholic Church in Selden, followed by burial at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in Coram.

Because traffic to the fire department during visitation is expected to be heavier than normal, Sixth Precinct police advise motorists to find alternate routes after 6 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday.

For Friday's funeral services, College Road in Selden will be closed between Route 25 and Mooney Pond Road from 10 a.m. until about 3 p.m., police said.
