Hempstead Turnpike at Carmen Road in East Meadow was closed Thursday morning for about 90 minutes because of a gas leak, Nassau County police said in a traffic advisory.

National Grid spokeswoman Wendy Ladd said a landscaper working on a project hit a gas main.

The broken main affects service at four business, Ladd said, and workers are expected to repair the break by the early afternoon.

Police issued the advisory shortly after 9 a.m., saying westbound lanes of the roadway were closed. They issued another advisory at about 10:40 a.m., announcing the lanes had been reopened.
