A gas leak that forced about 50 people to be evacuated from homes in Long Beach on Wednesday afternoon has been repaired and residents have returned to their homes, according to National Grid.
Contractors were digging as part of the city’s flood mitigation project when they struck a gas line about noon off Riverside Boulevard near the Martin Luther King Jr. Center in the city’s North Park neighborhood, city officials said.
The gas leak led to evacuations of homes in the densely populated neighborhood.
National Grid technicians responded and sealed the leak early Wednesday afternoon.
