About 75 workers renovating an unoccupied Wantagh building were evacuated Thursday after a backhoe ripped open a natural-gas line, Nassau County police and a utility spokeswoman said.

Police said there were no injuries when a line at 3000 Burns Ave. was ruptured at about 11:47 a.m.

Wendy Ladd of National Grid said repairs were completed at 12:40 p.m.

The leak also partially closed two roads, Emerson Place and Wilson Avenue, until repair work was completed, police said.
