A gas station attendant was assaulted and robbed at gunpoint on Friday night by an unknown man in Elmont, Nassau County police said.

The male attendant was pumping gas at the USA Gas Station on Linden Boulevard shortly after 10 p.m. when police said he was approached from behind by a man who put a gun to his head, police said.

The suspect knocked the victim to the ground and demanded cash, police said. The victim, who was not identified, complied and the suspect fled the scene with an undetermined amount of cash, according to police. The attendant was not injured.

Police said the suspect was last seen wearing a gray jacket, gray hooded sweatshirt, blue jeans and white sneakers.

Anyone with information about the robbery is asked to contact Crime Stoppers at 800-244-TIPS. All callers will remain anonymous.
