The 30-year-old man fatally shot in the head last week on Chase Street in Hempstead has been identified as Gerraud Hill of Malverne, Nassau County police said Sunday.
According to police, Hill was shot and wounded shortly before 11 p.m. Friday, then got into his 2011 Chevrolet Traverse and drove about a half-mile before hitting a parked car and crashing into a residence on Rose Avenue.
No one was in the house at the time and no one else was injured.
Hill was taken to Mercy Medical Center in Rockville Centre, where he was pronounced dead by emergency room staff about an hour after he was shot.
The killing was one of three homicides in the village last week.
A man died Saturday after being shot outside a Hempstead deli, authorities said. Victor Benitez, 28, of Hempstead, was found about 4:40 a.m. Saturday on Clinton Street near Wellington Street, police said. Surveillance footage showed a busy deli and street at the time.
And Tuesday afternoon, Jonathan Wade, 55, was shot while driving on Albermarle Avenue. Three boys were injured when he crashed into bleachers at a middle school sports field after being shot.
The shootings are still being investigated. Police said anyone with information about the shootings could call Nassau County Crime Stoppers at 800-244-8477.
