A 12-year-old girl was struck by a car in Long Beach Wednesday afternoon while crossing at a major intersection, the city manager said.

"She was taken to Nassau County Medical Center, but she was alert," City Manager Charles Theofan said. "They think she's OK, but as a precaution, they took her up there."

The incident was at Park Avenue and Riverside Boulevard, Theofan said.

Long Beach police were not available to release information concerning the accident.
