A 13-year-old girl was struck and killed by a motor vehicle as she crossed Eagle Avenue on her bike Wednesday in West Hempstead, police said.

Nassau County police said the girl's family requested her name not be released.

The accident occurred at 3:03 p.m., as the girl attempted to cross Eagle Avenue near Park Avenue, police said. She was struck by a westbound 2002 Cadillac driven by a 24-year-old woman. Police said there was no criminality and did not release the identity of the driver.

The victim was taken to a hospital, where police said she was pronounced dead by a physician at 3:57 p.m.

The vehicle was impounded for a brake and safety check.
