Glen Cove City Council approves concessionaire for beaches, stadium

The Glen Cove City Council last Tuesday night approved a contract for a Bethpage-based company to run concessions at two city beaches and John Maccarone Memorial Stadium.
S.C. Specialty Food Group was the only bidder, said Darcy Belyea, director of parks and recreation. The company will pay the city $7,000, $2,000 less than it paid in 2015, she said.
About seven or eight other companies picked up the city’s specifications for the project but did not enter a bid, she said.
S.C. had concessions for Pryibil Beach and Morgan Memorial Park’s beach for the past 10 years, except for two years when it lost a bid, Belyea said.
Last year was the first year S.C. operated concessions at the stadium, and lower-than-anticipated revenue there may have been why this year’s bid was lower than the 2015 bid, Beylea said.
The city has the option of renewing S.C.’s contract for up to three years, Belyea said.
Food at the three sites includes hamburgers, hot dogs, salads, ice cream, pretzels and other items.
