The Glen Cove Beautification Commission is hosting a “Chip-A-Tree” Christmas tree recycling event on Saturday.

Residents can bring their evergreen trees — with all decorations and lights removed — to the Morgan Memorial Park parking lot between 9 and 11 a.m. The first 50 Glen Cove residents will receive a free evergreen sapling. There will be free coffee and donuts for everyone.

The trees will be turned into chips for landscaping in city parks and other locations, Mayor Reginald Spinello said in a statement.

Residents who can’t attend Saturday’s event can drop off their trees in the parking lot of Morgan Memorial Park before Saturday morning. The lot is locked at dusk.

After Saturday morning, city sanitation workers will pick up trees curbside on Wednesdays with yard waste.
