Glen Cove is holding its sixth annual Howl’oween Parade for pets on Oct. 30.
The parade in the past has included parrots, a snake and guinea pigs in addition to dogs and cats. Animal owners are encouraged to dress their pets in costume.
The event is from noon to 2 p.m. It begins behind City Hall and goes down Pulaski and Glen streets to Village Square. The rain date is Nov. 6.
There will be six contests — for smallest pet, biggest pet, most exotic pet, best costume, most original costume and best pet/owner costume combination. Registration begins at 11 a.m. behind City Hall.
Downloadable registration forms are at www.glencove-li.com. Registered participants will be entered in a raffle to win one of several gift baskets.
Employees of the city clerk’s office will be at the event to register dogs for a state dog license. Pet owners are asked to bring a non-perishable pet food or a toy to donate to Cove Animal Rescue.
For more information, call Glen Cove Parks & Recreation at 516-676-3766.
The parks department, Petco, Scoopy Doo dog waste removal service in Locust Valley and Glen Cove’s North Coast Subaru are the event’s sponsors.
