Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo should reject Independence line, Nassau Democratic chairman says
Nassau Democratic chairman Jay Jacobs is spearheading a resolution at this week's Democratic state convention in Melville calling on Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo to reject the Independence Party ballot line this fall. He said it is unclear if the resolution will be debated or tabled without discussion. "Even if it's tabled, there will be plenty of discussion in the halls," he said.
The resolution says the minor party embodies the "corrupt ethos of 'pay to play,' " confuses unaffiliated voters with its name, and was criticized by the governor's Moreland Commission over campaign finances. Efforts to reach state and Suffolk Independence Party chairman Frank MacKay were unsuccessful; Cuomo has yet to address the matter.-- Rick Brand
